Are you wearing your laundry day outfit right now, or maybe you just have one pair of underwear left? We are all guilty of putting laundry day off until we absolutely need a fresh load of laundry. Even though laundry day might sound as easy as turning a dial and pressing a button, sometimes it feels like the loads are endless.

We’ve put together our clean little secrets to make laundry day a breeze.

1. Separate Laundry The Easy Way

Sorting through dirty laundry is honestly one of the worst parts of laundry day, especially if you are doing it for more than yourself. Then once you have everything sorted, you are left with random piles of laundry sprawled throughout your room. If only there was a way to have all your dirty clothes already organized into light-colored clothes, dark clothes, colored clothes, and delicates.

The best laundry organization idea for sorting laundry: invest in a laundry basket with 3 or 4 sections to sort clothes. From here, you and your family can throw your appropriate clothes in each bin and help you do some of the work.

2. Get A Mesh Bag

Losing track of your socks may be one of the most frustrating parts of laundry day. It almost seems like every time we do laundry at least one sock is lost forever. We can’t tell you where missing socks go (it may be one of Earth’s biggest unsolved mysteries). What we can tell you is that a mesh bag will save your life… and your socks!

Throw all your dirty socks in, zip it up, and match each sock to its perfect pair. When it comes to laundry supplies, a mesh bag is a must for those who can’t wear two different socks.

Clean-Freak Tip: Give each member of your household a mesh bag for their socks, so you never have to touch fresh soccer game socks again. Plus, it makes folding, sorting, and matching socks so much easier.

3. Wash Your Washing Machine

If your washing machine smells funky this may carry over to your clothes, making all of that hard work go to waste. Washing your washing machine may sound like more work on top of all your laundry, but it makes a huge difference in how clean your clothes, towels, and blankets come out.

The first step? Read our ultimate guide to washing your washing machine. Don’t be intimidated; it’s easier than you think. To keep the mildew smell out of your washing machine for longer, leave the door to your washer open after each load. Most washing machines are designed to be airtight. If you keep it closed, it will trap in bacteria and mildews BFF: moisture.

4. Know How to Handle Your Delicates

We all have a pile of clothes that are extremely important and, unfortunately, extremely delicate. One wrong wash and they could be ruined. You may have put off hand-washing in the past, but it’s actually pretty easy.

  1. Fill a washtub, sink, or large bowl with room temperature water
  2. Add a gentle, fresh-smelling laundry detergent
  3. Let it soak for 30 minutes
  4. Rinse and press out water. Do NOT wring or twist!
  5. Hang dry. A drying rack can be a great addition to your laundry supplies if you normally hand your clothes on your kitchen cabinets.
  6. Bask in amazement that you can wear your favorite shirt again!

5. Fold Faster

Part of what we mean by this is folding clothes as soon as they come out of the drier. This may not be possible with every load, but it prevents a huge pile of clean laundry from accumulating in your space. Get it done early!

We know folding can be a pain for those who never worked in retail. If folding really isn’t your forte, try rolling your shirts instead of folding them. This helps you get a birds-eye view of everything that’s in your closet and prevent you from digging to the bottom just for that one white tank top you can never seem to find.

6. Choose Your Detergent Wisely

Listen we can’t do it all alone, laundry day included. Picking the right (and best-smelling) laundry detergent that does some of the work for you can make a huge difference, taking some of the load off your shoulders.

Our Everyday Laundry Detergent can help you tackle your worst dirty laundry nightmare with a super-concentrated, plant-powered formula that fights stains for you (bye-bye bleach). We choose two types of plant-based enzymes to tackle two types of stains: that spill from your Indian take-out last night and the sweat from your hot yoga class.

Wait, a plant-powered laundry detergent that actually works? Yes, you heard us correctly. Coconut-oil-derived surfactants, plant-based surfactants, and natural enzymes fight stains and wash away dirt, oil, and impurities while preserving colors. Did we mention it smells like you air-dried your clothes in a field of Instagram-worthy wildflowers?

Psssst. If you have sensitive skin, our formula was made for you. We created a PH-balanced formula that is gentle on the skin. Want more? We made our bottles refillable so you can stock up while being gentle to the environment.
